Hop On! My First School Bus Helps Kids Take a Big Step Toward Kindergarten
To help kids (and parents) prepare for that inaugural school bus ride, Chesterfield Public Library invites you to My First School Bus. This annual program gives pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students a chance to practice getting on and off a real school bus while learning about school bus safety with Chesterfield County Public Schools and Chesterfield County Police Department.
Each session will have a bus with accessibility equipment. This session will have a bilingual driver. / Esta sesión contará con un conductor bilingüe.
All rising pre-K and Kindergarten students are welcome to participate in the information session portion of the program. Only rising CCPS students will be allowed to board the bus. Children in other school systems may participate in the presentation part of the program, but may not board the school bus.
Please register only the children who will be attending.
All ten Chesterfield Public Library locations will host My First School Bus sessions between July 20 and July 31. LaPrade Library
The 20,000 square foot LaPrade Library opened at its current location in 2001 when it moved from its original 8,000 square foot building on Hicks Road. The building was renovated and reopened in 2026. The building is named for Mary Ann Harmon, who devoted her life to the improvement and support of public libraries in Chesterfield County and the Commonwealth. She served as the chair of the Library of Virginia Board (2000) and president of the Friends of Chesterfield County Public Library (1986–2003).
