Come learn hula from Melody Sarmiento Burris, a professional hula dancer practicing the art since 2011. Melody has taught hula through Hope Hula Ministry since 2019 under the direction of her "kumu" (teacher) Darvette Abbate, a Hawaiian native.
These hula classes will teach you about the history of hula and Hawaiian culture, the two types of hula dance: Kahiko and 'Auana, basic steps and names, traditional wear for hula classes and costumes, and more.
You do not have to attend every session, but each session will teach you something new! Registration opens two weeks before program.
